Alcohol Rehab Centers
We’ve all heard the song about the girl who doesn’t want to go to rehab. The end of her story is very sad and very typical of this sort of situation.
The refusal to attend rehab centers has been a theme in many television shows, movies and songs. If you have ever seen the reality show Intervention, you can understand the references here.
In fact, it may seem rather familiar to you. First, they start following someone who is clearly struggling with alcoholism. The only thing is, this person will not admit that they are struggling with the condition, either to themselves or to anyone else.
The struggle continues throughout the episode as we see the pain that the addiction is causing for the addict’s family.
Finally, the show concludes with the family staging an intervention, begging their loved one to seek the help that they need… And guess what? The show’s producers are even paying the expenses!
Chances are you have never been at an Intervention, but if you are struggling with alcohol addiction, the situations depicted on the show may seem all too familiar. You may know what it is like to deny to yourself and to others that you have a problem. You may also know what it is like to take advantage of your family. You may know what it is like to hurt people emotionally and maybe even physically. You may even know what it is like to be confronted with the prospect of rehab. And, if you are anything like the majority of the people on that television show, and in life, you know what it is like to say “no” to rehab.
There is no doubt that on the surface there seem to be many reasons to say no to rehab. For one thing, they are expensive, and the vast majority of addicts do not have a major television network paying for their expenses. And of course there is the matter of taking all of that time out of your life to go away for treatment. Besides, you probably like your life the way that it is. Sure, you drink a little more than you should, but who doesn’t?
Drinking isn’t illegal. It is one of the biggest industries in the country and you are simply supporting the economy by doing something that you love to do, that gives you comfort. Right? Of course, it is never really that easy. When you get right down to it, drinking is not the amusing pastime that it once was. Perhaps you know deep down that you drink more than a little too much, or you drink way too much. Maybe you are an addict and you know it.
And when it comes to the cost of rehab, it is true that they can be a little bit pricey. If you have people who love you, however, chances are that all you have to do is ask and they will be more than happy to help you overcome your addiction in whatever way they can. Even if they are not willing to help, you still have options. There are low-income rehab centers, and there are support programs designed to get people who cannot afford treatment the help that they need. Some centers are even covered by Medicare or regular health insurance.
Deciding to look at rehab is a big decision, but it is a decision that has helped many people the world over. Rehab centers come in a number of different forms. While some are short-term facilities intended to help you through the initial stages of withdrawal, others are longer programs that give you the support you need in order to get on the road to full recovery. Some treatment centers even feel like retreats, complete with pools, gourmet meals, and yoga sessions. The only rule, of course, is that you can have no alcohol on the premises.
Unless you or your family is quite well off, your choices of rehab centers may be quite limited. That said, there are many excellent low-cost facilities that can help you on your way to recovery. While they may not be the luxury retreat you might hope for, it is important to remember why you are attending the center in the first place. You are there to take the first step towards living an alcohol-free life.
You are there to end your dependency on alcohol. You are there to make a better life for yourself and your family when you get out of treatment. Even if the facility is not a five star hotel, chances are that you will feel like a million dollars when you are living alcohol-free. There are a number of places you can go to find out about rehab centers.
If you have a family doctor who knows you and your medical history, they may be able to recommend somewhere that is both well suited to your condition and is within your budget.
If you do not have a trusted doctor, you could still make an appointment with a local doctor and see what they have to say and if they can refer you to a good facility. Most cities, and even most small towns, have drug addiction centers that are there to help people find out about their treatment options. Simply go on in and tell them what you want. They no doubt help dozens of people just like you every day and will be happy to give you the information you need.
No matter who you talk to or what information they give you, however, it is important to remember that the final decision is always yours. You do not have to go to any rehab centers that you do not want to go to, unless of course you are mandated by the courts. If you are not willing to get help, chances are that the center would not be able to do anything for you anyway. When you are willing, however, jumping in with both feet, saying “Yes!” to rehab, may be the best decision you ever make.
