If you run into these people you have to do everything you can to blow them off as best you can so that they do not influence you or make you anxious and make you want to go out and get drunk or even have one drink.
Because being around people that you normally drink with will definitely make you anxious and definitely make you feel like you need to go have a drink. This won’t last forever but it will be especially hard in the very beginning when you first decide to finally quit drinking.
The next thing you need to do is stay away from some specific places that you normally associate with alcohol. If you have a favorite restaurant that you used to go to while you are drinking you should stop going to this place in the beginning because every time you walk in there it’s going to remind you of all those times that you used to drink there and it’s going to tempt you to drink.
Also avoid bars and other locations that you would normally drink at because these places are going to bring up feelings that you probably aren’t equipped to handle right now so you shouldn’t even try to deal with them at this time. Remember, it’s important that you stay away from places like this for the rest of your life if you really want to stay sober for good.
For some reason our bodies and minds easily remember these things and you can have a strong urge come on you just by standing in a location like this and this could really jeopardize your sobriety through no real fault of your own. I’ve heard stories where people have gone to places that they used to drink at nearly 10 years later and the urges would still show up just like it was yesterday. So you don’t want to run the risk of this happening to you so you should avoid something like this at all costs.
If you have certain things in your life that remind you of alcohol you need to stay away from them as well. Maybe you used to have a song that you liked to listen to all the time while drinking. You should avoid listening to that music for a while until you get used to being sober again. Please take this advice and use these tips for fighting alcohol addiction whenever you need them. This is a really strange and powerful disease so you definitely need to stay on guard if you are going to be successful at stopping your alcohol abuse.
